Rising Burnley tennis star Roman Shafiq has been recognised for progress within the sport

The Blessed Trinity RC High School pupil was named the 'Rising Star in Sport' at the British Muslim Awards, held at the Mercure Piccadily Hotel, in Manchester, last Friday.

Shafiq is a member of Burnley Tennis Club and has been earmarked for a bright future.

Later this year he will join up with the Pakistan Under-16s Davis Cup squad.

Burnley Tennis Club is looking for new members - adults and juniors. The club hosts social events while serious competitors can take part in team tennis and competitions.

There are fun coaching sessions for children aged from five to 16-years-old.
