With wickets tumbling around him at the Horsfield, the professional produced a superb unbeaten century to guide his men to what appeared at times to be an unlikely win.

Chasing 236 for victory, the visitors slumped to 145-7 despite Sam Holt’s 42.

However, Gulraiz Saboir (25) helped his skipper add 58 for the eighth wicket to put Nelson within striking distance and McGladdery did the rest.

He finished unbeaten on 113, clearing the boundary rope on three occasions along with 14 fours. Geeth Kumara and Shahzaid Raja shared six wickets equally.

Earlier, Sam Tillotson (45), Kumara (65) and Yasir Ali (47) had made significant contributions with the bat for Colne. Khurram Nazir finished with 4-57.
