On Sunday, the theatre hosted an open day to the public to celebrate the anniversary, after having a special birthday party the weekend before.

And around 100 people went to have a look round the Hippodrome on New Market Street.

Press office Milly Greenwood said: “We were very pleased to have a lot of visitors. And on the previous day at our film session around 80 people came on Saturday night.”

On the open day itself, visitors could look round the whole of the theatre, including their massive “wardrobe” which is packed with thousands of costumes which are used in their shows.

On stage musicians played the piano and sang and there were also food and drinks available, of course.

The theatre was originally opened in September, 1914, but in the 1970s amateur theatre groups took it over and spent years making it a lovely location. And for the past 28 years it has been hosting lots of great performances there, but many other attractions take place including dance festivals.

And from Tuesday to Saturday the Pendle Hippodrome Theatre Company will be staging “Jesus Christ Superstar” there – see Stage Page for more details.
