‘Inspirational’ Anne dies aged 72

Anne Eves (72) died on August 9th and was remembered at a service at Burnley Crematorium last Tuesday.

Those who worked alongside Anne paid tribute to a woman who engaged in the community and “always wanted to help”.

Anne served her community as a secretary at the Friends of Padiham Memorial Park and chairman at Friends of Pendle Heritage for a number of years.

Before that she had worked as a pupil liaison officer at Walter Street Primary School, Brierfield.

“Anne took an interest in what was going on around the park and was generally interested in the town,” said Hazel Rushton, treasurer at Friends of Padiham Memorial Park and the town’s former mayoress.

“She was a lovely person. She was very community-spirited.”

While with the Park’s Friends group, Anne helped raise fund towards building the park’s new cafe and getting the bandstand reinstated.

During this period the park was repeatedly awarded the Green Flag Award - the benchmark national standard for parks and green spaces.

The group’s current chairman, Carol Stinton, said she valued her friend and colleague’s “honesty” and the group would discuss how best to remember Anne at their next meeting.

“She was a very kind lady and a lovely friend,” she said.

“Anne always spoke her mind. She did not hold back. She was truthful. I liked that about her.”

Anne also built upon her experience as a teacher to give talks and lectures - the proceeds of which she donated to Pendle Heritage Centre.

Angela White, manager at Pendle Heritage Centre praised her commitment to “engaging in the community”.

“Anne always had a smile on her face. She always wanted to help,” she said.

“She was an inspirational lady.”
