Get ready for Burnley Canal Festival

The latest annual Burnley Canal Festival takes place on the Bnak Holiday weekend of August 29th and 30th boasting the usual array of activities.

Trips will be available along the famous Leeds Liverpool Canal on board the historic working boat Kennet, while there will also be music and entertainment, Punch and Judy shows, free face painting, stalls and a bouncy castle.

A large collection of working, trade and pleasure narrow boats will be on display and there will also be street theatre, craft and food stalls.

Visitors can try their luck at canoeing, angling and a football goal shootout.

Meanwhile, the nearby Weavers’ Triangle Visitor Centre and Oak Mount Mill Engine House will be open for tours.

There will also be a boaters welcome party on Friday from 7-30pm followed by a best dressed boat competition and raft races.

A spokesman for the Canal and River Trust said: “Set in the heart of Burnley’s historic Weavers’ Triangle, Burnley Canal Festival is free for all visitors.

“It is our aim to provide a wide range of entertainment, traditional and recreational activities to be enjoyed by all age groups.

“We strive to provide information about the canal and the Weavers’ Triangle, the part it played through the years in the development of Burnley, and to develop pride and respect for canal users, past present and future.”

Council leader Coun. Mark Townsend said: “The canal is a marvellous asset for Burnley and I’m delighted to see we are making the most of it.

“The Burnley Canal Festival is a wonderful event which brings in visitors from a wide area.”

The first festival was held in 2012 and has proved a popular event since attracting scores of people to the canal.
