First World War medals stolen from Burnley home

The theft happened between March 15th and May 25th, when someone entered a house in Ronald Street and took the medals from an upstairs bedroom. The items included three First World War medals and a solid silver flute.

The medals are described as round and made of solid silver. All three had the surname LORD engraved in the back of them.

They belonged to the victim’s grandad who served during the First World War as a medic.

In addition to the surname, they may also have had T.H. engraved in them, which stands for Thomas Henry, but the victim is not completely sure on this.

The medals had different coloured ribbons attached to them, but again the victim is unsure what colours the ribbons were. 

There was also a solid silver flute stolen which was kept in a black resin carry case with a handle. The case was lined in a burgundy material and was a Yamaha make.

PC Nicola Breckell, of Burnley Police, said: “The victim has been left feeling vulnerable and upset by this theft but her over-riding emotion is anger as she feels she has lost a connection to her family’s history.

“I would appeal for anyone who has any information or who may be offered these items for sale to contact the police.”
