Cat’s Whiskers reunion raises £3,700 for Pendleside Hospice

ORGANISERS of a reunion for one of Burnley’s best-loved nightclubs of the ‘70s and ‘80s were like the cats who got the cream!

For the Cat’s Whiskers Remembered reunion raised the purrfect sum of £3,700 for Pendleside Hospice.

Tickets for the event, held at Burnley’s Lava and Ignite club, sold like hot cakes after the Express ran a story featuring old photos from the halycon days at the club situated at the bottom of Centenary Way in the building that now houses Gala Bingo.

Around 800 people danced the night away to hits from the 70s and 80s courtesy of DJs Andrew Pickles, who came over from Australia for the event, Brendan Connolly, Steven Hindley and Ricky Gallamore. They all used to spin the discs at “The Cat’s” and also Annabella’s nightclub which opened next door and was just as popular.

One of the organisers, Trish Cartmell, a former Express reporter, said: “ I would like to thank everyone who supported the reunion. It was a fantastic success and we have arranged another for December.”

The second reunion takes place on December 9th, and anyone who would like tickets or information is asked to look at the Facebook page cat’s/annabellasreunion 2011.
