National gold for CRGS!

The National Schools Biathlon Championships at the Olympic Park in London saw Ribble Valley athletes show real signs of a lasting legacy created by Samantha Murray.

The event saw Clitheroe Royal Grammar School claim team gold in the Under 14 age group, winning two individual medals, while there were several other notable local performances.

The Clitheroe Royal Grammar School team were Jack Stanley (Year 9), Harvey Griffin and Ben Turland (both Year 8). They all produced fantastic 100m swims, with Jack recording 1:00.21, Harvey 1:01.10 and Ben 0:59.94.

That left the boys in a great position to do well both as a team and individually.

The 1,600m run was next, with Ben winning his heat by a huge margin in 5:40.44. Jack and Harvey were competing in the last heat, and with the pressure on their shoulders, both produced an outstanding run, with Harvey finishing first in 5:15.27, and Jack second in 5:17.01.

After a nervous wait, Harvey won the bronze medal with Jack taking silver, six points off the gold medal. Ben finished fifth, and with the combined totals of the boys’ scores, they finished with 7057 points, winning the gold medal, beating second by 1074 points.
