Glenn rolls back the years to win Golden Cue large table final

Stevenson took the first frame which was a close affair, after Russell Large had looked like going into a 1-0 lead, going on to clear the colours to get his nose in front.

After that, Stevenson was in superb form and rattled off breaks of 54, 63 and another 63 to take the match and title.

After a break of almost 20 years from snooker, Stevenson takes the crown he won back in 1988.

Large, although disappointed, was quick to congratulate Stevenson on a superb performance after the match, admitting he did not take the few chances he got, and was made to pay dearly.

Stevenson also took the high break prize for the competition with his two 63 breaks - beating Large’s run of 57 in an earlier round.

The match was watched by Blackburn area champion Jonny Hannon, who will now play Stevenson for the title of East Lancashire Amateur Champion on a date and venue to be announced.

The small table final takes place on Sunday from 12-30 p.m. at Ighten Leigh Social Club between Wayne (147) Cotterill and Steve Almond.

Meanwhile, the Burnley and District Snooker League has a agreed a sponsorship deal with Rapid Recruitment for the 2014/15 season.

The deal means a huge rise in prize money for all winners in the coming season, which will in turn hopefully attract more teams and players to the league.

Rapid Recruit opened its first branch in 2006 in Burnley, where their directors were born and bred.

Rapid Recruit now has a branch in Wigan and one in Castleford, strategically positioned to service Lancashire, Greater Manchester and West Yorkshire into Leeds.

Rapid Recruit supplies temporary, contract and permanent recruitment services to vast array of sectors.

They said: “As a company, and also individually, we still maintain our ethos and that is to support and invest in our local community, and as such we are proud to sponsor the Burnley and District Snooker League this year.”
