‘You don’t always get what you deserve’ - Burnley boss Dyche after Brighton defeat

A first half goal from David Lopez condemned his side to a third defeat in five games.

But Dyche was encouraged by what he saw from his players.

Home keeper Tomasz Kuszczak was the busier, with Lee Grant, on his 100th league start for the Clarets, a spectator for long periods of the game.

But Burnley lacked that cutting edge, as they slipped to eight points outside the play-off places.

Dyche said: “I think to come down here and perform like we did is very encouraging – our bravery with possession and the way we played, opening up the chances.

“But it’s fair to say we had a wobble for five minutes in the first half when the game could have got away from us.

“We conceded a soft goal and they had one that fizzed across the goal.

“Other than that I thought we were very good.

“I thought we were decent as well on Tuesday night against Middlesbrough.

“I said to the players, there’s future in those performances to get us back on the winning trail.

“It’s important that we go again and keep that consistency and that level of performance.

“We want to play, we want to pass and move and play good football – it has to be productive.

“In the second half particularly, I thought we were very productive.

“It is just the madness of football sometimes that you don’t always get what you deserve.

“But there is a real positive feel about the performance.

“I’ve assured the players that it’s part of our building process, to get performances like that more often because you will win games when you play like that.

“It’s a frustrating one because there were so many good things.

“It’s a tough place to come to and play like we did and dominate the ball like we did at times, and also create that many chances.

“There are clear signs of positive times to come if we maintain and build on those last two performances.”

A key moment was a breathtaking save from Kuszczak - a man Dyche knows well having signed him on loan at Watford last season - from a Jason Shackell header after half an hour.

The Burnley boss added: “Tomasz is a very good goalie and that’s why a club like this have put the resources into signing him.

“He did very well for us at Watford last year.

“He made a big save in the first half and a couple of scramble saves in the second half.

“I think he knew he lived a charmed life as a goalkeeper because he told me he’s amazed that he got a clean sheet.”
