The Clarets are still waiting for that elusive first victory since promotion.

But Trippier, returning to his rampaging best down the right flank, is not getting too downhearted ahead of Saturday’s trip to Arsenal.

He said after Sunday’s 3-1 defeat at home to Everton: “There is belief in the group, and that comes from the staff and as a team.

“We’ve just got to keep going, it’s not like we’ve played poorly, we’ve played very well, and I thought we dominated the first half so if we keep performing like that, the win will be around the corner.”

The former Manchester City youngster is finding his feet at this level, delivering a string of his trademark deliveries from out wide, and raking passes, and he has been encouraged to bomb forward after a more reserved start to life at this level: “It’s my first nine games in the Premier League so I’ve taken it in my stride, taken my time.

“I’ve had a word with the assistant and he told me to just get forward as much as you can, so in the last three games that’s what I’ve done, and hopefully I can keep doing that for the rest of the season and help the team.”

And he is taking inspiration from his opposite numbers in the Premier League: “When I was playing last year in the Championship I used to look at people like (Seamus) Coleman and (Branislav) Ivanovic and players like that.

“Obviously they’re top class players and top Premier League players, and Coleman showed how good he is (on Sunday), the same with Leighton Baines.

“They’re both unbelievable full-backs.”
