The winger, introduced as a 79th minute substitute at the expense of Michael Kightly, beat Kasper Schmeichel from 20 yards deep in to time added on at the King Power Stadium after Scott Arfield was felled by Matty James.

The 29-year-old Scot, who last netted competitively in a 2-1 defeat to Birmingham City at Turf Moor in January 2013, said: “There was nobody getting it, he said. “Tripps was off the park as well so he wasn’t getting it. “It was relief for me. It’s been a long year so it was good.”
