The Clarets’ teenager has joined the Reds on loan until the end of their season on April 20th.

Hewitt is the second young player to leave Turf Moor on transfer deadline day with striker Shay McCartan earlier signing on loan for BSP rivals Hyde United.

Hewitt completed his move to the Impact Arena after impressing for the Clarets’ Development Squad in their friendly defeat at Everton earlier in the day.

The 19-year-old has been a regular at Reserve/Development level for Burnley since coming through the club’s youth system and after making a substitute’s appearance in the Championship last April made a full first-team debut in the Capital One Cup in August.

Manchester-born Hewitt spent time at Stockport County and Blackburn Rovers as a schoolboy before joining Burnley’s Centre of Excellence and then signing as a scholar in the summer of 2010.

The midfield play-maker was then fast-tracked to a professional contract in October, 2011 and now gets the chance to press for a taste of regular first-team football under former Chesterfield and Bradford City boss Nicky Law.
