Tom Heaton and ex-Claret Ings named in England squad

Striker Danny Ings, who joined Premier League Liverpool in the summer, has also earned his first senior call up on the back of netting twice for the Reds.

Turf Moor skipper Heaton was first selected for the Three Lions for the international friendly against the Republic of Ireland at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium in June and watched from the sidelines once more as England beat Slovenia and San Marino last month.

The 29-year-old, who became the first Burnley player to be named in a senior England squad since Martin Dobson in 1974, will be among fellow keepers Joe Hart and Jack Butland for the fixture at Wembley next Friday and the following Group E clash at the LFF Stadionas in Vilnius on Monday, October 12th.

Danny Ings’ former strike partner at the Clarets Sam Vokes has also today received a call up to the Wales squad for their qualifiers against Bosnia-Herzegovina and Andorra as the Welsh bid to end a fifty eight year absence from featuring in a major tournament.
