With a seventh successive campaign in the top flight looking more and more unlikely, we’ve taken a look at the ex-Clarets involved in the promotion race in the Championship.
Here’s a list of EIGHT former Turf Moor stars who are currently in top flight contention!
It includes three record signings, a couple of free-scoring strikers, a number of Republic of Ireland internationals and two loan recruits.

5. Andre Gray [Queens Park Rangers]
The 30-year-old striker is only on loan with play-off chasing QPR, but his move from Watford could become permanent should "The Rs" secure their return to the top flight. Gray, who has scored three goals in his last four games for Mark Warburton's men, and eight in total, was another record signing for the Clarets. He scored 32 times in 67 league starts for the club, including 23 in his first season at Turf Moor as Burnley were promoted to the Premier League as champions. Photo: Alex Davidson
The 32-year-old forward hasn't played in the Premier League for more than two years now, but stands a real chance of getting another crack at it with QPR. The former West Brom and Southampton striker originally moved to Loftus Road from the Clarets in August 2013 after scoring 41 goals in 82 league appearances for Burnley. He scored three hat-tricks for the club — against Portsmouth, Peterborough United and Sheffield Wednesday. Photo: Alex Pantling
The Irishman is another former Claret on loan at Loftus Road, with Newcastle United allowing the midfielder to leave on transfer deadline day. The Dublin-born 30-year-old, who has played nine times in the Championship for QPR, made 139 appearances for Burnley in all competitions — winning two goal of the season awards in the process — after making the switch from Derby County in August 2016. The young Irish centre back left the Clarets in the summer after making three Premier League starts for the club. The 24-year-old scored his only goal for Burnley in a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Leicester City at the King Power Stadium 18 months ago. Following loan spells with Barrow, Accrington Stanley, Hearts, Sunderland and Fleetwood Town, he's now settled at QPR and has made a total of 37 appearances this season, scoring three goals.
