5. Steven Defour
After signing Steven Defour for a club-record fee in 2016, the midfielder's contract was terminated due to personal reasons in August 2019. A month later he joined Royal Antwerp, before returning to his boyhood club Mechelen a year later. Defour announced his retirement in May 2021. Photo: Nathan Stirk
6. Ntumba Massanka - 2019
After a number of loan spells away from Turf Moor, Ntumba Massanka was released in 2019 and joined National League side Chorley. The striker had a brief spell with Italian side ASD Angelana before returning to England with South Shields this season. Photo: Nigel Roddis
7. Stephen Ward - 2019
Stephen Ward joined Stoke City in 2019 following his release from Burnley. Ward only remained witht eh Potters for a year, before signing for League One side Ipswich Town on a free. The defender was a regular for Ipswich last season, but was released this summer and has since joined Walsall. Photo: Ashley Allen
