Self-proclaimed 'old school' Burnley boss Dyche has never felt so modern!

The Premier League's Manager of the Month for March, who has steered the Clarets to five wins in succession in the top flight for the first time in 50 years, is a firm believer that old-fashioned values such as determination, drive and devotion can take a club a long way in football.

Those key traits, that culture and philosophy that appears so simple to install on paper, is what Dyche has built his success on during his five-and-a-half years at Turf Moor and now, with European football closing in, the proof is in the pudding.

"They've never been more modern," he said. "How can things like hard work, pride and passion be deemed old school? They've never been more modern.

"I'm the most old-school manager in the world and I've never felt more modern. They are things to be encouraged, embraced.

"There is nothing better in a modern British side for a fan, as a minimum, to see their team give everything. Muhammad Ali had it - a skill without will is useless. You need that."

Dyche accepted that other ingredients are also needed to be put in to the mix to bring out the best in his players and recent form has certainly contributed.

Victories over Everton, West Ham, West Brom, Watford and Leicester City have propelled Burnley to the periphery of the top six.

Ahead of tonight's game against Chelsea on home soil, Dyche said: "It’s certainly helpful, that winning feeling is what we all crave. It does give you that feeling, that extra skip in your step.

"Everyone feels a bit better about themselves, the crowd are buzzing, the team are buzzing, it does instill that extra bit of confidence and that freedom to go and play.

"When you’re winning you get that free edge to go and take on the game and delivery a performance. When results are for you you have to enjoy that feeling because it’s hard to do in the PL."
