Burnley boss Sean Dyche was disappointed that his side couldn't stay in the game long enough to make life awkward and uncomfortable for Tottenham.

With Jose Mourinho's side losing five of their last six games in the Premier League, the Turf Moor chief was hoping to make life difficult for the hosts and play on the 'nervousness' that may have been filtering around the Spurs camp.

However, the game-plan went out of the window after just 68 seconds as the Clarets conceded their quickest ever goal in the Premier League.

Heung-Min Son's delivery from the left hand side took out four players and Gareth Bale tapped home his second league goal of the campaign after being played onside by Charlie Taylor.

"If you give a soft goal away like that so early on it kills your game-plan," said Dyche. "Part of your game-plan stops immediately and we were never able to push them to the phase where it was awkward or uncomfortable because they got that one and then a second very quickly.

"It is such a soft goal. By our standards, we very rarely get done by stuff like that in any part of the game but we certainly did today in the early phase and we didn't look alive to it.

"It took us almost off guard for some reason, we didn't respond to it, our line was all wrong, our distances were all wrong. As it was on the third goal, our distances were wrong as a defensive unit.

"It is a tough afternoon when these sides get their noses in front."

Harry Kane made it 2-0 after a quarter-of-an-hour before Lucas Moura added a third before the break with the timing of the goals almost a mirror image of the 5-0 thumping on Burnley's last visit to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Dyche said: "At half-time, at 3-0, the game has gone and you're looking for miracles. In the second half it was more about being diligent to what we do.

"The balance is that they're a top side that turned up today and were clinical and we didn't keep them out for long enough to make them nervous. We didn't stay in the game long enough to make that happen."

It was 'damage limitation' for the visitors after the break with Bale netting the only goal of the second half with an exquisite finish.

Dyche said: "There's a balance to it. You can't take away the fact that you're playing a top side. Their form has been indifferent lately, but that doesn't mean they are not still a top side.

"You've got to turn up and we didn't in the early phases of the game. We actually used the ball quite well at times and got into some really good attacking areas but, defensively, in transition, they were sharper than us and took their chances.

"They are all good on their day. Man City are a top side, Liverpool, Arsenal, all these sides have their moments. Leicester, of course, have had their big moments this season.

"We know they work in transition and how good they are with these types of players. When you've got a focal point of Harry Kane you're not going to go far wrong! He's certainly one of the top strikers in the UK and Europe for me."
