Sean Dyche not getting carried away

Burnley go to Elland Road fourth in the Championship, two points off the top, with 14

points from seven games - their best haul since Stan Ternent piloted the side to the top of the table at the start of 2001/02.

Dyche is enjoying the progress his players are making, and feels things are coming to fruition at the club: “Even last season when there weren’t such good days I said there are good things going on here. I believed in what we’re doing, what we’re doing behind what you see, I believe in the way me and my staff work with the players, and I hope they’re paying back that belief and taking ownership of it because that’s what it’s about, guiding the players to what we think is appropriate and then delivering performances. There are some good signs.

“I’m delighted to be seven games in and on 14 points, but we’re well aware there’s a long way to go. But it is something to be enjoyed, the way the team are performing at themoment.”

Burnley go over the Pennines boasting the best goal difference in the division, plus seven, after many outside the club wondered where the goals would come from after the sale of Charlie Austin, but Dyche always had confidence in his squad to step up to the plate: “There are a small percentage of doom mongers here who as soon as Charlie went were in the ‘that’s it’ brigade - a very small percentage I must say, often on the internet - but the fact is we believe in what we do, we believe in the players.

“We’ve got total belief in the players here, not only how they’re conducting themselves as individuals but for the team and the club, and that’s an important thing.”

And he feels the fans are buyong into what they are trying to achieve: “I mentioned when I got here about that connection between the players and the fans, the team and the fans, and it’s building. It doesn’t win you a game but the fans know they’ve got a team giving everything for what the club is and that’s an important factor.”
