Sam Allardyce linked with top Burnley FC job

The Daily Mirror has reported that Sam Allardyce wants to be the next Burnley boss and he has “already put in for the job”. It reports that the former Blackburn Rovers’ manager is “desperate to get stuck in again” after being sacked by Rovers’ new Indian owners a fortnight ago.

A caretaker boss is due to be appointed at Burnley today and the club is not expected to name a successor until after Monday’s game against Reading.

Also understood to be in contention for the Burnley post are Lee Clark (Huddersfield) and Phil Brown, who was axed by Hull in March, as well as Doncaster’s Sean O’Driscoll, who was the Clarets’ first choice to succeed Owen Coyle a year ago.
