The 20-year-old is believed to be on the wish-list of up to seven Premier League clubs, including Manchester City, Leicester City and Wolves, as well as Serie A giants Juventus and AC Milan.

And, with suitors expected to make their move soon, Burnley's resolve to hold onto one of their Crown Jewels will be tested.

McNeil, who moved to Turf Moor at 14 after being released from Manchester United's Academy, started every Premier League game for Sean Dyche's side last season, playing all but 75 minutes of top-flight football as the Clarets finished 10th.

"There are conversations ongoing, like there are with many players," a source told the Burnley Express.

"A kid who has played every single Premier League game this season, at his age, and has done what he's done, there's always going to be interest."

McNeil is among a pool of young, highly-rated Premier League talents such as Aston Villa's Jack Grealish and AFC Bournemouth's David Brooks, both of whom are expected to join new clubs this summer.

And that could be the case for Burnley's star man, if the price is right.

McNeil, who became the youngest player since Raheem Sterling to reach 10 Premier League assists, signed a new long-term deal last January, putting pen-to-paper on a contract that would keep him at Turf Moor until the summer of 2023, with the option of a possible further 12 months.
