The Scotsman, only 24, played in the UEFA Europa League with Falkirk during the 2009-10 season, making his first appearance in the competition against Liechtensteinian side FC Vaduz.

Arfield also has the experience of walking onto the pitch in domestic cup finals. He played the full 90 minutes in Falkirk’s Scottish Cup final defeat to Rangers in 2009, and came on as an extra-time substitute for Huddersfield as they won the League One playoff final on penalties in 2012 - Arfield held his nerve to dispatch a crucial fifth spot-kick.

Promotion to the Championship must have felt sweet for Scott, having suffered playoff final heartbreak with the Terriers at Old Trafford a year before.

The Livingston-born player has represented Scotland at Under-19, Under-21 and B-team level, and has an SPL Young Player of the Month award for December 2007.

Having risen through the ranks of the Falkirk youth-team, Arfield went on to make a total of 108 appearances for the Bairns - scoring 16 goals for the club.

He moved Huddersfield in 2010 for a reported fee of £400,000, playing in 96 games for the side before being released at the end of last season.

With his best years still ahead of him, Scott has the chance to show manager Sean Dyche what he can offer next season.
