Summer signing from Middlesbrough Lukas Jutkiewicz opened the scoring for the Clarets slotting under Preston keeper Jones after Jones had robbed Clarke of the ball and played the former Boro striker through.
Preston thought they had equalised on the stroke of half-time when Tom Clarke headed past Gilks, but the defender had strayed offside.

Veteran striker Kevin Davies rolled back the years attempting a scorpion kick, but his effort was comfortable for Gilks in the Burnley goal.
Moments later though the Lilywhites got their goal, Brownhill’s free-kick was hit sweetly and rippled the back of the net to the delight of the Preston fans behind Gilks’ goal.
Dave Jones nearly responded straight away, but his shot from the edge of the area was straight at Jamie Jones.
Burnley now travel to Blackpool on Saturday in their final friendly away from Turf Moor.
