BURNLEY’S play-off hopes took a severe setback last night as they were beaten for the fourth successive league game.

Two second half goals from Nottingham Forest substitute David McGoldrick were enough to see off the challenge of the Clarets who lost Marvin Bartley to a red card in the first half.

Both teams started the game slowly, with Chris Eagles’s shot thirty minutes in, the best effort before Marvin Bartley received his marching orders for a rash challenge on Luke Chambers.

The second half Burnley were the victims of a Nottingham Forest onslaught, and the deadlock was broken when David McGoldrick was first to react after Burnley failed to clear Lewis McGugan’s free-kick.

McGoldrick wrapped up the points for Forest in the dying seconds of the game latching on to Rob Earnshaw’s square pass to leave the Claret’s play-off hopes dangling by a thread.
