Nugent to lead line against former club at Fratton Park

FORMER Clarets loan man David Nugent will lead the line for Steve Cotterill’s depleted Portsmouth at Fratton Park tonight.

Nugent, who scored six goals in 30 appearances for Burnley in the Premier League last season, has eight goals so far this term back at parent club Pompey.

And he is expected to partner veteran Nigerian Kanu as Dave Kitson sits out the last of his three-match ban for his dismissal in the FA Cup against Brighton.

Also suspended is former Blackburn skipper Aaron Mokoena, who is out after collecting 10 yellow cards.

On-loan right back Ritchie De Laet is a doubt with a groin problem picked up in the 2-2 draw with Leeds on Saturday, with Greg Halford on standby to fill in.

Cotterill faces his old club for the first time since leaving by mutual consent in November 2007, and he is expected to select from (4-4-2): Ashdown; De Laet/Halford, Rocha, Sonko, Dickinson; Lawrence, Ward, Mullins, Utaka; Nugent, Kanu.

Pompey are without a win in seven games, with four defeats sandwiched by two draws against Leeds.
