'Not safe yet' - Mark Lawrenson reveals Burnley prediction ahead of Southampton clash

In his latest scoreline predictions piece for BBC Sport, pundit and broadcaster Mark Lawrenson gave his verdict on the Clarets' upcoming clash, and tipped the two sides to play out a 1-1 draw.

Explaining his choice, Lawro claimed: "Both of these sides have got 33 points and, while they are not safe yet, I don't see either of them going down.

“Burnley played very well to beat Everton in their last game and while Southampton's league form is still pretty awful, they ran out easy winners against Bournemouth in the FA Cup.

“Whoever wins will take a giant step towards ensuring their survival, but I can see the points being shared.”

Meanwhile, Lawro's opponent for the week, singer-songwriter and Red Devils fan David Gray, also went for a 1-1 draw.

Speaking ahead of the game, Burnley boss Sean Dyche revealed he's looking to use the rest afforded by the international break to his side's advantage, and claimed: “We’re hoping this period gives us a chance to go into the last stage of the season strong.

“I think only Man City since Christmas have had more games, and then they gave us three weeks off...work that one out!

“It’s been a really different year for obvious reasons, for everyone, so I’m not going to cry it in, but it has been a challenge with so many games, compared to the norm, and with so many injuries.”
