Nomination shows teams growth - Dyche

Burnley picked up their first two wins of the season, drew twice and only list at Arsenal, leading to Dyche being named alongside Jose Mourinho, Manuel Pellegrini and Alan Pardew.

And Dyche said: “It’s more a marker for the team. The team is developing, learning, growing. We had to see beyond results and into the performances. The belief has stayed high, the feel good factor has stayed high.

“Then we turn out two wins and two draws. It certainly should have been three wins, and then we just had the reverse down at QPR, where it was still a good performance in general.”

Striker Danny Ings was also nominated for the plater award after three goals in five games over the month, and Dyche feels he is impressing after returning from a hamstring strain earlier in the season: “I felt it might be a good one in the sense he could go under the radar.

“There was a lot of expectation at the beginning of the season.

“We’ve had Vokesy injured so there was more talk about Ingsy. He’s come back, full of life, full of energy and played with a smile.

“That’s what I want him to do. He’s a young man developing, learning. He will do that naturally, some of it guided by us as coaches. Self-learning is a big thing and he’s shown a good sign of that, adapting to the challenges of the PL.”

Sam Vokes is nearing a return, with the prospect of last season’s 47-goal partnership being reunited, but Dyche added: “It’s yet to be seen at this level. Last year fantastically productive. Vokesy’s on his way back, got 90 in the week - he needs more than that.

“I thought Barnesy was excellent last week. Whoever plays up there we want to make sure they’re productive and there was good signs of that again last week.”

Meanwhile, Dyche laughed off national newspaper speculation linking Burnley with a move for Eduadorian Junior Sornoza? “Who is that? That’s news to me. It’s certainly not. It would be highly unlikely that it goes that far afield.

“We’re starting off building a base in England, going into Europe as the first marker, and if and when there’s time to go beyond that, we’ll see. But certainly not at the moment, no.”
