The 52-year-old took caretaker charge of Burnley’s last four games of the season after the club parted ways with Scott Parker, following confirmation of relegation back to the Championship.

But with key decisions to be made over contracts and recruitment, Jackson knows there’s no time like the present.

“In an ideal world you'd want everything in place early,” he said.

“But I think in football now with transfers and managers coming in, obviously the sooner it can get done the better, but you can't rush these things either.

“You've got to make sure you get the right people in place that you want, and try and keep your best players if you can.”

When asked if he will have any involvement in the club’s talks, Jackson – speaking after the final day game against Wolves – added: “I think that will happen in the next few days.

“The most important thing for me was just focusing on what we had to try and do in these three or four games that we've had, and try and give a good account of ourselves.

“Hopefully we've gone towards doing that and leave with a little bit of positivity going into next season.”

As for Jackson himself, he’s looking forward to some rest and recuperation after another taxing season in the Premier League.

“I’m looking forward to just sitting outside in the garden,” he said. “Just chill, reflect again, take a bit of time off and then get ready to go.”
