Burnley were a goal down after just six minutes when Riyad Mahrez tucked the ball past debutant Bailey Peacock-Farrell.
The Algerian international netted his second of the afternoon at the midway point of the first half before Benjamin Mendy added a third when converting Kevin De Bruyne's cross just before the break.
Ferran Torres finished from close range to make it 4-0 in the 66th minute and Mahrez went on to complete his hat-trick when heading home substitute Phil Foden's delivery three minutes later.

5. Charlie Taylor 4
Couldn't live with the pace and drive of Mahrez and Walker, who often popped up on the overlap, and completely switched off for City's third when Mahrez netted from a throw in. Not his best afternoon at all.
6. Jay Rodriguez 5
Uncharacteristically failed to track his marker when Mendy ghosted in at the far post to convert De Bruyne's delivery. Worked hard, tested Ederson with a second half strike, but couldn't affect the game as he would have liked.
7. Ashley Westwood 6
Really helped debutant Benson along the way, leading by example with an encouraging display. Pressed hard, broke up play whenever possible while his determination in the final third helped Burnley become more of a threat after the break.
8. Josh Benson 7
A really encouraging debut for the youngster, who was the subject of high praise from Dyche post match. Picked up some intelligent areas to protect the back four, was tidy in possession, competed well and remained composed in spite of the circumstances.
