Low-key transfer deadline day for Burnley FC

Clarets boss Sean Dyche was anticipating as much yesterday, although the club continues to look to the loan market, with the Football League’s emergency loan window reopening next Friday.

Dyche landed Brighton striker Ashley Barnes three weeks ago, his only cash signing since taking the reins at Burnley, and admitted it was “unlikely” any more permanent signings would be made.

He said: “We’ve been trying to align certain things that we thought might happen. It’s looking possible, but not probable as regard permanent signings.

“We’re keeping our lines of communication open for possible loan signings but it’s not just what you want, it’s the availability and the package that would secure those loan signings.

“The challenge of the window is that there are a lot of players that similar clubs will be in for and we can’t always win the race financially because someone will put something more financial into the club, the player or whatever so we have to shop accordingly.”

However, the club, for the third successive January window, have held onto their prized asset. Having held onto Jay Rodriguez and Charlie Austin, until the following summer at least, 21-goal Danny Ings remains at the club, despite a month of speculation linking him with a string of Premier League clubs, as well as Scottish champions Celtic.

Meanwhile, Dyche has allowed George Porter to leave the club, joining Marvin Bartley, with the pair having their contracts terminated by mutual consent.

Winger Porter has joined neighbours Rochdale, while Bartley has signed for Leyton Orient, where he has been on loan since August.

Left back Joseph Mills has also joined Shrewsbury Town on loan until the end of the season.
