After scoring his first Premier League goal since April 2013, as the Potters lost 3-1 against Aston Villa, he said: “It’s nice to get a goal. It would be nice if I can get a few more. It was a long time but we’ve got to keep believing that we can score goals and pick up wins in this division.

“We showed great character and we deserved the point. Last week (against West Brom) was so disappointing so we came out of the blocks really well. There was a different feel about us today and hopefully we can build from here.

“Last year both sides stormed the league and both deserved to go up. Any point in the Premier League away from home is a good point.”
