Kevin Davies linked with Turf Moor move

The 36-year-old striker, who was released by Bolton Wanderers at the end of last season, played alongside Dyche during John Duncan’s tenure as manager at Saltergate in the ‘90s.

The pair were in the Chesterfield side that lost to Middlesbrough in the semi-final of the FA Cup in 1997.

Davies, who won an international call-up under Fabio Capello, earned himself a £750,000 move to Southampton on the back of his form for the Spireites and promptly moved on to Rovers once current England boss Roy Hodgson parted with £7.5m for his signature to take him to Ewood Park.

Following Rovers’ relegation, Davies returned to the Saints in a deal that saw Egil Ostenstad move in the opposite direction.

However, the veteran marksman continued to struggle for form and was loaned out from St Mary’s to the Den in 2002, a period which saw him score for Millwall against the Clarets in a 2-2 draw at Turf Moor.

In the summer of 2003, after his release from Southampton, Davies was snapped up by then Bolton boss Sam Allardyce and went on to score 84 goals in more than 350 appearances for the Trotters in all competitions in a decade with the club.
