Jack Cork and Nathan Delfouneso called up to England under-21 squad

The Clarets provide two players for England’s under-21 squad for their double-header later this month, with Jack Cork and Nathan Delfouneso both included in Stuart Pearce’s squad.

But Jay Rodriguez must keep his fingers crossed for a call-up after being placed on stand-by for the friendly fixtures away to Denmark and against Iceland at Preston North End on March 24 and 28.

Rodriguez won his first England cap as a substitute in Italy last month but is included as back-up this time following the return of a number of players to the squad.

Loan men Delfouneso and Cork have been regulars for England during their successful qualification for the summer’s European Championship finals in Denmark.

Meanwhile, Alex MacDonald has been included in Scotland’s under-21 squad for a challenge match away to Belgium on Thursday, March 24.

MacDonald, who is currently on loan to Scottish Premier League side Inverness Caledonian Thistle, won his first cap at under-21 level in November.
