Revealed! The ominous stats behind Burnley giant-killings ahead of MK Dons clash

The third round of the FA Cup is always liable to throw up an upset or two, and the prospect of a giant-killing is one of the main thing that keeps the magic of the competition alive after all these years.

Of course, for some of the bigger sides in the country, the potential for a David vs Goliath outcome is less about romanticism, and more of a humiliating banana skin that must be avoided.

Historically, some clubs have been more prone to bowing out at the hands of a minnow than others, and Burnley have fallen victim on more than one occasion.

As recently as 2017 they were knocked out by Lincoln City, who were at that point still in the National League.

This season could prove to be just as dangerous too, with a clash against MK Dons to contend with on Sunday. The Dons made a slow start to the campaign, but have lost just one of their last five matches, and are slowly climbing their way up the League One table.

But where do the Clarets rank in terms of other giants who have been slain throughout the years?

BetVictor have taken the difference in league positions between every top side and the teams who have knocked them out over the past 25 years, and have come up with a cumulative total for each club.
