The Clarets piled misery on under-fire Gunners boss Mikel Arteta with a hard-fought victory that helped Sean Dyche’s men stay clear of the relegation zone.

Their cause was aided when Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka was dismissed for grabbing Ashley Westwood’s throat in the 53rd minute.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a decisive own goal for the ten men shortly afterwards.

Much of the rhetoric in the aftermath of the match has centred around the scrutiny that Arteta is facing in north London, but speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live’s 606 Football Phone-In, Savage and Sutton took a moment to highlight just how well Burnley did to come away from north London with all three points.

“I know we’re talking about Arsenal, but Burnley though – let’s give Burnley massive, massive credit”, the former said.

Sutton, who had backed the Gunners for a win, responded: “Absolutely. I didn’t fancy them today.

"It’s always difficult. Every season Burnley stay in the Premier League – listen, I think it’s a great success.

"Sean Dyche doesn’t lavish massive transfer fees, their wage structure will be one of the lowest in the Premier League. He does a fantastic job.

“Backs to wall a little today, helped by the red card, but let’s hear from Burnley fans. I’ve got my hat on, ready to eat.”

Sunday’s result left Burnley 17th in the table, four points behind Arteta’s under-performing side in 15th.
