German club keen on Burnley loan raid, Clarets want to sell forward

After their customary slow start to the season, Burnley have started to look a little more like their old selves in recent weeks.

A 1-0 defeat to Manchester United in midweek wasn’t exactly ideal, but Sean Dyche’s men put in a gallant display, and are still four points clear of the relegation zone with games in hand on many of the sides around them.

Progress in the transfer market has, by contrast, been less promising in recent days.

Everton’s Jonjoe Kenny has emerged as a defensive target, but for the most part Dyche appears to be fighting a painstakingly slow battle when it comes to bringing in fresh faces before the transfer window closes at the beginning of next month.

In terms of outgoings, however, one man in particular who could be headed for the exit door at Turf Moor in Matej Vydra.

According to an update from Sky Germany, Union Berlin are keen on taking the striker on loan this month, and Vydra himself is said to be interested in heading to the Bundesliga in search of more minutes.

Complications could arise from the fact that Burnley would prefer to seal a permanent transfer for the Czech, but a deal in some form or other appears to be a possibility.

The 28-year-old has made nine appearances in the Premier League this term, but just one of those has been from a starting role, and it’s easy to see how a forward in his position could be growing frustrated by a lack opportunity.

The Clarets have scored the joint-lowest number of goals in the top flight this term, as well as having the second-fewest tally of shots.

Dyche’s preferred strike partnership of Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes have hardly shone either, with just four goals between them so far this season.

Admittedly, Vydra has never truly shown his best form at Turf Moor, and has just seven strikes of his own in 52 outings since joining the club in 2018, but on paper, at least, a January move could be the fresh start he needs to reignite his career.
