Burnley transfer news: Clarets linked with international teenager, Lampard wanted Turf Moor ace at Chelsea

At first glance, Frank Lampard’s dismissal from his post as Chelsea manager doesn’t really affect Burnley too much.

After all, the two sides are 10 points apart in the table, and aside from a clash at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, probably won’t cross paths again for a while to come.

But according to a report from The Athletic, the 42-year-old’s sacking may just be a blessing in disguise for the Clarets.

The online publication suggest that Lampard had identified James Tarkowski as a potential summer transfer target as he looked to bolster his back-line in West London.

Tarkowski’s future at Burnley is far from assured, with the centre-back still yet to agree to a new deal with the club, and the lure of a side in the Champions League may have proved to be too much for him to resist.

It’s not hard to see why Lampard was attracted to the 28-year-old either.

So far this season, Tarkowski has made 80 clearances in the Premier League – the sixth-highest tally in the division, as per Whoscored.

He’s also made the ninth-highest amount of interceptions, and blocked the seventh-most number of shots.

If you’re looking for an old school, no-nonsense centre-half who knows the Premier League inside out, there are few better than Tarkowski.

Elsewhere, Burnley have been linked with a move for Nottingham Forest starlet Brennan Johnson.

Again, The Athletic are the source of this one, and they suggest that the Clarets have entered the race for the precocious 19-year-old, who is currently on loan at Lincoln City.

Sean Dyche’s men aren’t the only club chasing his services, however, with Leeds United and Brentford mentioned as potential suitors.

Johnson has hit five goals for the Imps already this season, and even drew congratulations from David Beckham after making his senior debut for Wales late last year.

The youngster looks to have a very bright future ahead of him, but if Burnley are to snap him up they may have to wait a while longer, with suggestions that Forest are eager for him to complete his campaign with Lincoln rather than making move this month.
