Ings back on target with precious goal

Rovers rattled: Danny Ings turns the ball home to earn Burnleys first win over Blackburn Rovers in 12 games

Ings stroked home the winner against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park with 12 minutes remaining, to end his longest wait for a goal this season - a mere four games.

It was his 25th of a prolific campaign, and the 21-year-old beamed: “I haven’t scored in the last four games and it was going to take one of those grumbly goals to go in to kick-start me again and hopefully I can take it into the next game.

“I had a really good chance that maybe I should have put away, but we stuck at it, I got more chances, I kept running my heart out and in the end got the goal.”

And the former Bournemouth man admitted: “At this moment in time I can’t imagine scoring a more significant goal. Not really.

“There’s no better feeling. When I was walking off the pitch I was shaking with the adrenaline.

“It’s definitely up there with the best moments of my career.”

Ings took the Sky Sports man of the match award, and the acclaim of the Burnley fans after the game while interviewed on the pitch.

But he admitted it was all about the collective: “It’s a great feeling but I can’t take the credit for that, the lads were terrific.

“Obviously the strikers get the credit for scoring the goals but I thought we defended as a team. We were fantastic.

“Going 1-0 down at a place like this the lads showed true character to get back into it. It’s a massive stadium against a rival team.

“Ross (Wallace)’s ball in for the first goal was fantastic, and Jason (Shackell) was very brave and got there in front of the keeper.

“It was the same with (Ashley) Barnesy, when he came on he held the ball up and helped to see the game out. He was fantastic. We had 4,500 fans behind us too and it was a great feeling.”

But thoughts turn quickly towards the trip to Birmingham City tomorrow night, with Burnley eight points clear in the automatic promotion places: “It’s a big gap, but as I’ve said previously it’s all about each game as it comes and that’s the way we’re going to take it.

“We seem to keep winning and we’ve got that bond where every time we go out we look like we’re going to win.”
