Former England defender Matthew Upson is keen to see how Sean Dyche would fare with a larger transfer budget – either at Burnley or somewhere else.

Dyche, 49, has managed the Clarets since 2012 and in that time has established the Clarets as a Premier League outfit, all on a smaller budget.

The most Dyche has spent on one player is £15million on Chris Wood – which is understood to be the lowest fee among each top-flight club’s record signing.

ALK Capital recently acquired Burnley, though it remains to be seen how that will impact the club in the transfer market.

And after earning a solid reputation at Turf Moor, Upson is interested to see how Dyche would deal with a bigger budget.

He told Sky Sports’ Football Show: “I think it’s a completely different requirement as a manager to be handed a large amount of money to spend on players. It’d be interesting to see how he’d deal with that as a manager.

"We can see how he deals with not having the funds – he does that brilliantly. He manages to squeeze everything out of the team, he develops a style of play that suits the personnel and he makes them difficult to beat.

"The biggest accolade you can give Burnley is you could see them in the bottom three now and still feel they’d be OK because they have that toughness, mentality and that ability to fight and get out of trouble.

"Having a load of money to spend and buying bigger players or a different style of player, that is a different challenge.

"I would personally like to see how that would take Sean Dyche managerially, how that would stretch him and how that would press him and see the type of decisions he would make and maybe the change in style he would play.

"I would like to see him do that, I’m sure he’s hoping to do that at Burnley but whether he does or not there still remains to be seen.
