Grezza linked with Gigg Lane vacancy

CLARETS midfielder Graham Alexander has been linked with another managerial vacancy.

The 39-year-old is believed to be interesting neighbours Bury, recently promoted to League 1.

Alexander saw his odds plummet with money placed on him to become the new Morecambe boss recently after Sammy McIlroy’s departure, before Jim Bentley made the step up.

And the Burnley club captain is again reportedly generating interest from the Shakers, who, despite losing manager Alan Knill and former Claret Chris Brass to Scunthorpe at the end of March, eased to automatic promotion under youth coach Richie Barker, who won six of his eight games in charge.

Alexander has an option of a coaching role at Turf Moor if that appeals to him, however, he is still keen to build on his 1,003 senior appearances, and the prospect of doing so with Burnley appears slim, having failed to make a single start since the arrival of Eddie Howe in January.

Bury, who will again face Burnley in pre-season, had looked set to appoint former Carlisle boss Neil McDonald, but now seem keen to speak to Alexander about the vacancy.
