Sean Dyche’s men went ahead on 14 minutes when Dean Marney and Keith Treacy combined to release Ings, who had it all to do, 40 yards from goal.

But he drove at the heart of the Derby defence in a devastating run, before poking the ball past former Claret Lee Grant.

Just after the half hour it was 2-0 as Kieran Trippier’s cross was flicked back across goal by Ings, and Will Hughes’ attempted clearance cannoned in off Vokes’ face.

Derby came out in determined mood in the second half, and they looked to have been given a lifeline just after the hour when Shackell appeared to cleanly win the ball from d to Chris Martin just inside the area, but the referee incredibly pointed to the spot.

However, Tom Heaton threw himself to his left to save from Johnny Russell.

Ten minutes later the points were secured when Grant brilliantly saved from Vokes, but from Treacy’s corner, former Ram Shackell volleyed in a third.

It could have been four as Ings turned in substitute Junior Stanislas’ pass, but was harshly adjudged to be off-side.
