A move to Portsmouth soon followed and the winger starred as the South Coast side won the First Division title in 2003.

He went on to make over 150 appearances for the club between 2002 and 2008, scoring 29 goals in the process, before moving to Bolton Wanderers for an undisclosed fee.

The former England U21 international also surpassed the 100 appearance mark at the Reebok Stadium and contributed 23 goals during his time in Lancashire.

Sam Allardyce then took the winger to Upton Park where he played a key role in securing West Ham’s return to the Premier League at the first attempt, before making 32 appearances in the following 2012/13 campaign.
