Former Clarets defender David Walker dies

Mr Walker, who was born in Colne, passed away on Tuesday, April 21 following a short illness.

The former defender made a total of 40 appearances for the Clarets between 1961-1965, having initially joined the club as they were set to embark on the League Championship winning campaign of 1960.

He picked up a Lancashire Senior Cup winners medal in 1961 and, in addition to appearing for the first team under Harry Potts, was a regular in the Central League Championship winning side of 1962 and 1963.

Following Jimmy Adamson’s retirement in 1964, Mr Walker was a rival to Brian O’Neil for the right-half position, and he played his last game for the club a year later.

He then joined Southampton and, later in his career, moved to South Africa to play and coach at Capetown City, later returning to the south coast where he built a successful antiques business.
