Former Burnley FC player starts new career in recruitment

A BURNLEY company has signed up an ex-Claret who has kicked off a new career in recruitment.

Former Burnley Football Club defender Paul Smith, who played at Turf Moor from 1992 to 2001, has now signed for Rotherwood Recruitment as an industrial recruitment consultant.

With his football career behind him, Paul worked as a recruitment consultant in Sheffield and then returned to the North East where he was born to continue in his new career. However, Paul has now decided to return to Burnley, a place he feels is home.

Rotherwood manager Pat Illingworth said: “Paul was the ideal candidate to ‘defend’ the Rotherwood reputation and score new contracts within the Lancashire area.”

Paul made 112 first team appearances for Burnley, scoring five goals, was part of the 1994 Wembley winning squad and the 2000 team that gained promotion to the Championship.

Rotherwood, based in Manchester Road and in Keighley, was the first agency in the North to be awarded the Recruitment and Employment Confederation Gold Audit Award.
