In the meantime, record numbers of football fans have been taking to Football Manager to get their fix. For a bit of fun, we've fired up the popular management sim and sent the game into the future, to have a peek at who the Clarets are predicted to sign over the next two transfer windows.
9. Jese - PSG - 1.7 million
He flopped at Stoke City, but at that price, he's worth another crack. The former Real Madrid youngster has some very eye-catching attributes, and should be a solid rotation option.
10. Adrien Silva - Leicester City - 1 million
Fast forward to January, and Burnley are straight in there with another deal. Quite how they persuaded the Foxes to sell a player they bought for 22m is a mystery.
11. Mikel San Jose - Athletic Bilbao - 3.5 million
A decade ago he flopped Liverpool, and now he's back in the twilight of his career to try it all again. The centre-back is a different beast now, and should be a top signing.
12. Jack Stephens - Southampton - 5 million
This one does seem a little more realistic compared to some of the other, rather more exotic purchases. The no-nonsense defender is right up Dyche's street, and a good deal at 5m, too.
