Easter could seal Burnley FC’s return to top flight

Defeat to Middlesbrough last time out, combined with a victory for third place Derby County against Huddersfield, has left Sean Dyche’s men eight points clear of their automatic promotion rivals with just four matches remaining.

With two games in the next four days, this Easter weekend could well seal Burnley’s return to the top flight.

First up for the Clarets is a trip to struggling Blackpool on Good Friday. The Tangerines are just two points above the drop zone following a run of four defeats in their last five games and Burnley are favourites for the three points that would virtually confirm promotion, best priced at 20/19.

Leading odds comparison site Oddschecker.com can also reveal that a Blackpool victory is 16/5 and the draw is 14/5 with a number of firms. When these two sides last met, just before Christmas, Burnley ran out 2-1 winners. A repeat of that result is 9/1 through BetVictor.

Once the trip to Bloomfield Road is completed, Burnley return to Turf Moor to take on Lancashire rivals Wigan Athletic, a side that are currently battling for a play-off place. The recently defeated FA Cup Semi Finalists are fifth in the table but lost their last match against relegation threatened Millwall.

Burnley go into the match as the 5/4 favourites with the draw 12/5 and a Wigan victory at 28/11.

The two teams met in the final match of 2013 and played out a rather dour 0-0 draw. A repeat of that result is a best price 8/1.
