Dyche – We’ve galvanised town

But, having taken Burnley to the Championship summit without spending a penny on transfer fees, he feels the club’s lack of financial clout has helped bring everyone together.

On the eve of the season, Charlie Austin was sold to QPR, with no striking replacements brought in as of yet.

However, Danny Ings and Sam Vokes have scored 19 goals between them, stepping up to the plate in style, and Dyche said: “When you tell fans where you’re at, with honesty, fans respond, they kind of get it.

“Not everyone agrees, but in a strange way, and results help, it’s galvanised the town to remember who and what we are.

“It’s not a negative to say you have to be careful, it’s quickly a positive because there’ll be someone beyond me, and the club will still want to move forward.

“My point is I’ll manage what is on offer, I don’t cry about it, you go hard, push it, develop it and move forward.

“That’s how I’ve always thought.

“If things didn’t quite go as well, there has to be a balance, but it’s not a negative. There is an expectation and we have to live up to that.

“It’s bringing everything together, I think people think ‘right, that’s where we’re at, let’s pull together and get behind the team’.”

Dyche spoke of a one-club mentality on his arrival nearly a year ago, and he believes there are signs of that taking shape: “There’s a fantastic feel - that’s one of my nirvana moments when you get noses pointing in the same direction, that one-club mentality where you can see and feel it, that good things are going on.

“Where it can take us, we’ll see, but it’s moving forward.”

Meanwhile, he revealed that winger Ross Wallace is on schedule in his recovery from a knee operation.

Wallace underwent surgery ahead of the trip to Brighton towards the end of August, ruling him out until December, having started the first four games of the season.

But Dyche said: “Ross is on plan, on track, obviously it’s a longer-term plan, but he’s on track.”
