Dyche takes positives from Spurs defeat

Harry Kane gave Tottenham the lead, heading in after a quick free kick, before a stunning strike from Ashley Barnes levelled matters.

However, £30m Argentine winger Erik Lamela scored what proved to be the winner before the break, and Dyche said: “I think we delivered a good performance again.

“We were effective in our play, we wanted to get the ball forward quicker than normal and affect their back four, because we thought we could, and we did.

“Their keeper had quite a busy day.

“Of course you’re disappointed, but there is a future in that type of performance.”

He added: “One of the big markers was coming here, with the wealth spent on players and the quality they have, and the way we were about it was first class.

“We worked the keeper, late in the game we’re still trying to find a way to get something out of the game - it’s a fantastic mentality the players have, and I believe in them wholeheartedly.

“There were great signs of what we are trying to achieve here again.”

The first goal came after a harsh handball award against Michael Keane, with Nacer Chadli crossing for Kane to head home after Christian Eriksen cleverly left the ball while in an offside position.

Dyche wasn’t happy with the goal, and said: “I just think Kane gets a little flick on the ball and I don’t think Keano can move, it’s ball to hand.

“Then they take a quick free kick, we know the rules, we have to go with that and we never really got back onside of the ball because our players reacted to the fact he was offside.

“It was just frustrating more than anything, particularly with the first incident because I don’t think Keano can get out of the way.”

Barnes netted his third goal of the season to equalise, and Dyche felt there were further chances to get something out of the game: “It was a marvellous strike, one of the best I’ve seen in a while, and Ingsy was sharp again.

“He put two at the keeper and hit him in the face - fantastic that he stayed on his feet when he was clipped as well.

“On another day one goes in for you.”
