Dyche signs new Turf contract

And he has got his way, with Dyche signing a new four-and-a-half year deal to bring his time at Turf Moor to a decade.

Garlick said at the end of last season: “He’s been here five years in October, personally I hope he’s here for another five years until 2022, and if we can achieve that, I’m sure we’ll have more success together.”

And Dyche is delighted to commit his future to the club, after over five years, in which he has led Burnley to the Premier League twice, as Championship winners in 2015.

He said: “The chairman spoke to me over the last couple of months, said ‘what are your thoughts?’, and we had a good chat about where it’s all at at the club, the continued progress, and how to get there.

“And he felt it was a big part of it, me staying, so we spoke about that, the whys and wherefores of it, and I’m very pleased to have come to an agreement that works for everyone.”

The contract could see Dyche become Burnley’s longest-serving manager since the legendary Harry Potts’ first spell in charge between 1958-70, during which time the Clarets were crowned champions of England in 1960.

Dyche smiled: “That was my planning, to the dot...

“It came out of a conversation with the chairman, he spoke to the board, and felt it was the right thing to do, as I did.

“At 46, I’m still moving forward, I don’t think I’m the real deal, not remotely, I’m still learning about myself, the business, the players, and there’s no naivety to the challenge we face, it is a challenge.

“What we’re trying to achieve in the marketplace in the Premier League, but I enjoy that challenge.”
