Dyche looking to affect striking options

Burnley have held talks with Karlsruher SC forward Rouwen Hennings over a deal which could cost between €2-3m, although discussions had not brought the move to a conclusion at the time of writing.

It had been suggested the 27-year-old would sign in time to be available to face Birmingham City at Turf Moor tomorrow, but chances of a swift resolution were receding last night.

Dyche does have competition among his current pool, starting at Leeds United last Saturday with new signing Jelle Vossen and Lukas Jutkiewicz, with Marvin Sordell and goalscorer Sam Vokes coming off the bench, and summer arrival Chris Long is also getting up to speed in terms of his fitness.

Dyche said: “We’ve got good options, that’s what you want. We’ve got a mixture.

“We’re still actively looking if we think there are people who can affect that mixture.

“You have to be productive at the top of the pitch. We like the framework of the team, the energy, the organisation. We’re generally quite secure as a unit and we do want that attacking force.

“If the right ones become available then we will add to our striking options no matter how many we’ve got. It’s about having the right ones.”

And Dyche is prepared to add to his squad in whichever position deals present themselves: “There isn’t a number on it. There’s a certain level we can go to financially. We have got finance, but there is a certain level.

“There are some situations in the Championship which have certainly surprised me by the level of finance both for the player’s contracts and the fees.

“Some of the players we’ve been in for, I’ve been stunned by the amount of money asked for, so we still shop accordingly to the good values that the club have with the idea of the finance of the club.”

Nottingham Forest midfielder Henri Lansbury is still expected to make the move to Turf Moor, having indicated to Forest boss Dougie Freedman he would like to take the opportunity, even though he would have to take a pay cut to make it happen.

Forest are thought to be waiting for reinforcements before allowing the move to go through.
